The meeting was called to order at 6:47 p.m. 1. ADOPTION OF AGENDA: Moved by James Foster and seconded by Gail Richardson that the agenda be adopted as distributed. Carried. 2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Moved by James Foster and seconded by George Laing that the minutes of the previous AGM of February 21, 2004 be adopted as read by Jan Galenza. Carried. No business arising. 3. TREASURER James Foster: a. As of December 31, 2004, the Unit had financial assets of $7,528.25. Equity is down due to a number of issues including the low exchange rate, the planned purchase of 64 Bidding Boxes, the rental of a storage locker and the unexpected loss at the Christmas Party. b. “Income”: the Team of Four League funds of $517.84 from 2004 should not be considered income; the Unit Treasurer on behalf of the League is holding these funds. c. The 2003 Fall and Spring Sectionals realized profits of $1372.72 and $94.53 respectively. d. “Expenses”: the loss of $1403.53 at the Christmas Party was noted. e. James thanked Emerys Evans for conducting the 2004 audit. f. Moved by Wanda Nunan and seconded by Delma Murray that the Treasurer’s report be adopted as read. Carried. 4. PRESIDENT Van Buchanan: a. Van expressed appreciation to the number of members who came to the meeting and indicated how that has changed over the years. She commented on the general health of duplicate bridge here and elsewhere in the ACBL world. b. She noted that the Unit has run one successful sectional tournament so far this year, the Ace of Hearts; and that two more are coming up, as is the Regional at the beginning of May. c. She thanked all who contributed to our successes in 2004 – including the teachers, tournament and club directors, and the many unit members who contribute in many ways. d. Sadly, the unit lost several members in 2004. They are Orrie Moreau, Ina Brander, Doug Hawkes, Barbara Glassford, Keith Stapleton, Dorothy Ross and Muriel Wilson. e. Van thanked the retiring Board Members, Rob Markle and Sheila Kaye for their hard work and dedication. She also thanked the remaining board members and all the volunteers for their support and hard work. 5. VICE PRESIDENT: Debbie Laing was unable to attend and no report had been filed. 6. MEMBERSHIP: Ruth Cain filed a report that was read by Jan Galenza. a. It was noted that Unit 431’s membership as of January 2005 was 447, an increase of 21 members from January last year. b. Of significance was the increase on Rookies, from 26 to 40 c. Doug Fraser encouraged the group to support the CBF by paying the $9.00 Canadian added to the ACBL dues. He also suggested that by adding $1.00 to tournament games, those funds would support Canadian Teams in international events and would earn the player more Masters Points. Van indicated that the board would consider this request
